On a very sunny and memorable Sunday (it was 11th November), a group of U3a Members set off from Calpe to Los Barrios in Spain, close to the Gibraltar barrier. We were greeted onto the coach by our driver Paco. Just before 11am Tony Stevens, a loyal British Legion Member, quoted the poem below followed by a minute’s silence. We boarded the autobuses ifach coach at 09.00am .We were greeted by Crista out guide and our driver Antonio. Twenty Calpe U3A members headed off for the AP7. A 10 min. comfort stop was enjoyed on the journey. In what seemed like a short time we arrived at the footwear museum. The ELDA footwear museum has one of the largest colllections of footwear related items; tools and machinery (lots of singer sewing machines) historic footwear;Roman and Egyption. On Friday 11th May a group of 33 (approx) members set off from Calpe at 8.30am to enjoy an interesting visit to Visit to Dominio Espinal vineyard. Castano is a family owned Bodega which produces some excellent and highly rated wines. When we arrived at Yecla we were taken to one of their vineyards by Raquel, our experienced and interesting guide. She explained the growing process and work involved in maintaining the vines.
